Job summary

Hill Country Animal Hospital in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our four-doctor practice in the Westlake area. You will support outpatient appointments, drop-offs, and walk-ins, collaborating closely with veterinarians and the team to deliver compassionate care for dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets.

Qualifications

• Hands-on veterinary technician or assistant experience required.
• Strong veterinary nursing and patient handling skills.
• Experience in a busy general practice or high-volume hospital preferred.
• Birds or exotic animals experience a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Record histories, vital signs, and prepare patients for appointments.
• Manage appointments and support drop-off and walk-in patients.
• Handle and restrain dogs, cats, and exotic species as needed.
• Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection.
• Run in-house labs and assist with imaging.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments.
• Provide nursing care and monitor patients.
• Assist with anesthesia monitoring and surgical prep.
• Educate clients on medications and preventive care.
• Maintain medical records and communicate updates.
• Collaborate with team to maintain patient flow.
