Job summary

VCA Dallas Animal Specialty Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join our Radiation Oncology team full-time. Location: 17727 Dallas Pkwy #150, Dallas, TX 75287.

We promote growth and development and train Associates for advancement in a collaborative, supportive, and progressive environment. The Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician will work closely with our Radiation Oncologist and RTT, supporting various modalities, anesthesia monitoring, CT

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary technician/assistant experience
  • LVT preferred, not required
  • Ability to restrain cats and dogs safely
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with good critical thinking
  • Ability to monitor anesthesia during procedures

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand radiation energy modalities and uses
  • Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough histories
  • Discharge Oncology patients with client education
  • Assist with CT simulations and radiation delivery
  • Monitor anesthesia during radiation therapy and provide post-treatment care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
  • Collaborate with hospital services and support team

VCA Dallas Animal Specialty Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join our Radiation Oncology team full-time! Location: 17727 Dallas Pkwy #150, Dallas, TX 75287 Do you thrive in an environment that promotes and encourages growth and development? We want you to expand your skills and follow your dreams at our 24-hour Emergency / Specialty hospital.

As a Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician, you will be working closely with our Radiation Oncologist and our Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to learn and understand the different types of radiation energies/modalities and appropriate uses for each
  • Ability to admit Oncology patients and obtain a thorough history, including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity, and duration
  • Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education
  • Be willing/able to assist veterinary technicians in procedures outside of radiation administration, such as CT simulations
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of radiation therapy treatments
  • Monitor and induce anesthesia plans for patients during radiation therapy sessions and provide post-treatment care
  • Full Technician Skill Utilization
  • Hands-free radiology (Associate safety as a top priority)
  • Calculate drug doses
  • Collaborate with team members from all hospital services
  • Provide compassionate care for all patients and have compassion and empathy towards clients
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of treatments
  • Celebrate when patients finish their radiation therapy! And more!

The successful candidate must have the following required skills/experience:
  • LVT preferred, not required
  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary technician/assistant experience
  • Safe restraint of cats and dogs
  • Critical thinking and detail-oriented
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong desire to provide an exceptional client experience.
  • Possess the ability to multitask, handle stressful and emotional situations
  • Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-starting with a professional and positive attitude.
Physical Demands:
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Required to use hands to handle, feel, and manipulate.
  • Required to reach with hands and arms
  • Required to lift and/ or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Requires vision and hearing corrected to normal ranges.

Schedule: Full-time, 4-5days per week
