BluePearl Pet Hospital in Birmingham, AL, is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology

Schedule:

This position works Monday through Thursday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

Responsibilities include:

1. Performing basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and assisting with detailed ocular exams.
2. Performing advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
3. Setting up and assisting with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision, ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
4. Handling outpatient procedures such as diamond burr debridement and CO2 laser surgeries.
5. Performing surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, and glaucoma surgery.
6. Assisting with anesthesia: placing IV catheters and fluids, administering drugs, and monitoring sedation/anesthesia with advanced skills including CRIs, paralytics, ventilation, etc. Anesthesia training is available with our specialist.
7. Organizing and maintaining ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
8. Educating clients about their pet's ocular disease and care.
