Job summary

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (VESH) in West Springfield, MA is seeking a Veterinary Technician specialized in Oncology. The position requires CVT/RVT/LVT credentials and active MA licensure. Oncology experience is preferred, with strong nursing and client-education skills.

You will assist veterinarians with exams, chemotherapy, imaging, and procedures, while maintaining accurate medical records. This is a full-time, on-site role with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

  • Active Massachusetts veterinary technician credential is required.
  • Oncology experience is preferred.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intakes and obtain detailed medical histories.
  • Review treatment plans, costs, medications, and discharge instructions with clients.
  • Assist veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, procedures, and chemotherapy administration.
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples including blood, urine, and fine needle aspirates.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and handle chemotherapy agents safely.
  • Assist with radiographs, CT, ultrasound, and patient positioning.

Schedule
  • Four 9-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient intakes and obtain detailed medical histories
  • Review treatment plans, cost estimates, medications, and discharge instructions with clients
  • Assist veterinarians with patient exams, diagnostics, procedures, and chemotherapy administration
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples including blood, urine, and fine needle aspirates
  • Perform medical calculations and administer medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Safely handle and administer chemotherapy agents according to hospital safety protocols
  • Assist with radiographs, CT scans, ultrasound procedures, and patient positioning
  • Monitor sedated patients during procedures and oversee safe recovery
  • Deliver high-quality patient care while maintaining accurate medical records
  • Collaborate closely with doctors and fellow technicians to ensure excellent patient outcomes
Qualifications
  • Certified Veterinary Technician required (CVT, RVT, or LVT)
  • Active veterinary technician credential in Massachusetts required
  • Previous oncology experience preferred
  • Strong technical nursing skills and confidence in patient handling
  • Ability to perform medical calculations and administer treatments accurately
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital environment
  • Friendly, dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented approach
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to hospital culture and collaboration
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to jump in wherever needed to support the team

We are a 24-hour, VECCS Level 2 Certified, state-of-the-art Emergency + Specialty veterinary hospital. Like human medical specialists, VESH supports primary care veterinarians with the evaluation and treatment of pets affected by trauma, chronic issues, serious illness, or unusual disorders requiring advanced training, while also providing critical and emergency veterinary care.
