Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) in Portland, ME, seeks an Oncology Veterinary Technician to support patients from diagnosis through chemotherapy and follow-up. You will work closely with board-certified oncologists in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Licensed or credentialed veterinary technician or experienced veterinary assistant.
• Experience in specialty medicine and/or oncology preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Familiarity with veterinary medical software (e.g., EzyVet, SmartFlow) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and chemotherapy under the supervision of an oncologist.
• Assist with diagnostics, including lab work, imaging, and CT scans.
• Support oncology appointments and help manage patient flow and scheduling.
• Assist with our radioactive I131 program for hyperthyroid cats.
• Maintain accurate medical records, treatment notes, and drug logs.
• Provide empathetic client communication and education.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Radiology.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position.

• Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM, 4-day work week with one weekday off and weekends off, final schedule to be discussed during interview process
• Occasional holidays are required

Compensation

• Starting at $25-38/hr, commensurate with experience

What You ll Do

As an Oncology Veterinary Technician you ll work closely with our board-certified oncologists to support patients throughout their treatment from diagnosis through chemotherapy and follow‑up. You ll be a steady, compassionate presence for both patients and families.

In This Role, You Will
