Join to apply for the Veterinary Technician III role at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine

HJF is seeking a Veterinary Technician III to provide support in performing various veterinary procedures in accordance with departmental SOPs and approved animal protocols. Responsibilities include maintaining animal health records, monitoring animals, and maintaining animal rooms and equipment. The position supports the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) at Fort Sam Houston, conducting research to improve survival and safety of DoD personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform surgical procedures, animal health surveillance, and maintain records.
  • Handle and restrain animals daily.
  • Maintain biosafety, sterile equipment, and pest control.
  • Inspect areas for compliance.
  • Assist with animal procurement and shipping.
  • Coordinate research activities and oversee junior staff.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Veterinary Technician degree or High School Diploma/GED + 5 years related experience.
  • LATG certification.
  • Knowledge of lab techniques, animal handling, and software skills.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
  • Current BLS certification or equivalent.

Physical & Licenses:

  • Lift up to 10 lbs, stand/sit for long periods, and perform physical tasks.
  • Preferred LATG certification.
