Job summary

SciTech Services, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Technician III to support health and welfare of research animals in the Edgewood area, MD. You will provide daily oversight, train the veterinary technician team, and ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 3 years’ veterinary technician care in research, LAT certification, and strong communication skills. The role is full-time with comprehensive benefits and a DoD clearance pathway.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
• LAT certification required.
• Knowledge of Federal, state, and NIH regulations and AAALAC accreditation.
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work environment may be noisy with high temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Care for multiple animal species including NHP, rodents, rabbits, swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
• Perform daily and weekly health checks on all animals.
• Follow SOPs and maintain electronic medical records.
• Collect and prepare biological samples for diagnostics and research.
• Administer treatments and basic medical care.
• Restrain animals for observation, sampling, or anesthesia.
• Setup and maintain surgical instruments and OR procedures.
• Prepare diets and manage animal housing and husbandry.
• Report anomalies to veterinary staff and participate in necropsies as needed.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and AAALAC accreditation.

Salary Range: $28.85 To $31.25 Hourly

SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking a Veterinary Technician III experienced in biomedical research to ensure the health and well-being of various research animals. The Veterinary Technician III will be responsible for providing daily oversight and training to the veterinary technician team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Experience caring for various animal species including but not limited to Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
• Responsible for performing daily and weekly health checks of all laboratory animals.
• Conduct quality assurance checks and implement existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Collect and record animal physiological data and conditions. Report any abnormal situations to veterinary staff.
• Prepare and distribute individualized diets, nutrition, and clinical treatments.
• Maintain electronic medical records and treatment plans based on veterinary directions.
• Setup basic surgical instruments, equipment, and operating room procedures.
• Perform veterinary technical procedures such as injections, euthanasia, and basic medical care.
• Clean and sanitize procedure areas, operating rooms, and prep areas.
• Safe handling and restraint of animals for observation, blood collection, catheterization, tissue collection, or anesthesia.
• Process and prepare blood, urine, stool, or tissue samples for diagnostics and research.
• Participate in study related necropsies and tissue harvest.
• Oversight and implementation of regulatory requirements for animal husbandry care.
• Administer simple treatments and emergency first aid.
• Manage facility data and compose technical reports for animal studies.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education required.
• Three years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
• Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certified.
• Knowledge of Federal, state, and National Institutes of Health (NIH) regulations and policies to ensure regulatory compliance and AAALAC accreditation.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
