Job summary

Arizona Humane Society seeks a dedicated Veterinary Technician for the Foster Team at the Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. The role offers four 10-hour shifts (Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat) from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM with three days off weekly.

You will support the medical team, perform exams, administer medications, vaccines, and train other technicians in sedation techniques while maintaining clear records and a clean treatment area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience as a veterinary assistant or technician.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced shelter environment and with sensitive handling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, high quality care to foster pets and assist veterinarians during exams, diagnoses and treatments.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and perform routine lab work as directed.
  • Educate Foster Heroes on home care and treatment plans; maintain accurate medical records.
  • Mentor and support other technicians in sedation techniques and procedures.

Veterinary Technician – Foster

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated, full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Foster Team.This position will be based at our state-of-the-art Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus and will work a four-day schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 AM–6:00 PM. A Day in the Life:

As a Foster Veterinary Technician, you'll be a key member of the medical team, providing compassionate, high-quality care to pets in foster homes and supporting their Foster Heroes every step of the way. You'll work closely with the veterinarian throughout examinations, diagnosis, and treatment while using strong time management, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. From obtaining medical histories and performing physical exams to administering medications, vaccines, and treatments, you'll help ensure each foster pet receives the care they need to thrive.

The ideal candidate is confident in a fast-paced shelter environment, comfortable with Fear Free handling and restraint, and able to remain calm under pressure. This role also performs laboratory testing, blood draws, radiographs, and sedated procedures, and will help train and mentor other veterinary technicians in proper sedation techniques and protocols. You'll also educate Foster Heroes on medications, home care, follow-up needs, and treatment plans while maintaining accurate medical records and a clean, organized treatment environment.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working as veterinary assistant or technician in a veterinary clinic/hospital setting.
  • Completion of a veterinary assistant or technician program (preferred), experience may substitute for education.
  • Must be proficient with TPR, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, and medication.
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
