Job summary

Circle C Animal Hospital in Austin, TX is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care and treatment. You will monitor hospitalized pets, prep prescriptions, perform routine lab work, and educate clients on care and procedures.

Experienced assistants may qualify for a $1,000 sign-on bonus. Strong communication, organization, and teamwork are essential for success in this busy practice.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance over 25 pounds.
• OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and equipment; maintain cleanliness of public areas.
