Job summary

Purdue University’s Veterinary Hospital in West Lafayette, Indiana seeks a credentialed veterinary technician to join the Equine and Farm Animal Surgery Team. You will assist with a range of surgeries, pre/post-operative care, and inpatient treatments, while also supporting outpatient diagnostics and teaching students.

The role offers opportunities to learn new skills, with a strong emphasis on teaching veterinary students and nursing students in a university setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.
• Must be RVT in Indiana within 12 months of starting employment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willing to teach clinical skills and concepts to students.
• Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with orthopedic, soft tissue, and standing surgeries.
• Support pre- and post-operative recheck appointments and hospitalized patient treatments.
• Participate in outpatient evaluations including musculoskeletal gait diagnostics and upper airway diagnostics.
• Teach clinical skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students.

Veterinary Technician (Equine and Farm Animal Surgery) – West Lafayette, Indiana

Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to work with our Equine and Farm Animal Surgery Team. This RVT will work closely with both surgeons and surgery residents, assisting with a wide variety of orthopedic, soft tissue, and standing surgeries, both pre and post-operative recheck appointments, and hospitalized patient treatments. This team will also participate in outpatient evaluations including musculoskeletal gait diagnostics and treatments and upper airway diagnostics. The Equine and Farm Animal Surgery team works M-F with rotating on-call responsibilities for nights, weekends, and holidays.

The veterinary technicians at Purdue have the opportunity to continually learn new skills and techniques. This knowledge leads to teaching those skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. We are looking for someone with a good base knowledge of surgical assisting and animal handling, as well as a great attitude and desire to learn.

What We're Looking For:
