Job summary

VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists in West Palm Beach, FL is seeking a compassionate Certified Veterinary Technician to join our 24/7 ER/ICU team. This hands-on role covers patient care, anesthesia, surgery assistance and critical care in a fast-paced environment.

We offer a compensation range of $23.00–$32.00 per hour, full-time scheduling with weekend shifts, and a comprehensive benefits package as part of our AAHA-accredited hospital.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician status required.
• Experience in emergency/critical care preferred.
• Ability to monitor vitals and assist in procedures in high-acuity cases.

Responsibilities

• Triage and assess emergency patients quickly to prioritize care.
• Monitor critical patients and provide scheduled treatments overnight.
• Place IV catheters and manage fluids and CRIs as needed.
• Assist with stabilization, CPR, oxygen therapy and wound management.
• Administer medications per veterinarian orders with precise documentation.
• Perform diagnostics and imaging to support rapid decisions.
• Maintain medical records and ensure smooth handoff to day team.
• Communicate clearly with overnight veterinarian and team.

This is a hands-on role where your skills and experience will be put to real use - patient care, treatment support, anesthesia, surgery assisting, and everything in between.

Emergency medicine - this is when the most critical, high-acuity cases come through the door, giving you hands-on experience you simply can't get anywhere else. If you thrive under pressure and want to fast-track your growth as a technician, specialty hospitals are where the real learning happens.

Compensation : $23.00 - $32.00 / hr based on skill set, experience and licensure status.

What You'll Do

Whether you're a credentialed veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT) or a technician in training, we want you using every skill you've worked hard to build:

Certified Veterinary Technician Skills, ER/ICU

• Triage incoming emergency patients, quickly assessing severity and prioritizing care in high-acuity, fast-moving situations
• Monitors critical patients continuously overnight, providing scheduled treatments, tracking vitals and recognizing early signs of deterioration
• Places IV catheters, draws blood, and manages fluid therapy and CRIs for critically ill patients
• Assists with stabilization and emergency procedures, including CPR, oxygen therapy, and wound management for trauma and critical cases
• Administers medications accurately per veterinarian orders, including emergency drugs and controlled substances, with careful documentation
• Performs and assists with diagnostics overnight - radiographs, blood work, and point-of-care testing - to support rapid clinical decision-making
• Manages recumbent and hospitalized ICU patients, including turning, padding, bladder management, and nutritional support
• Maintains composure and sound clinical judgment under pressure, often with a smaller overnight team and greater independence
• Communicates clearly and efficiently with the overnight veterinarian and team, providing timely updates on rapidly evolving cases
• Maintains accurate, detailed medical records under time constraints, ensuring seamless handoff to the day team

As a CVT at VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists , you'll work in a fast-paced, 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, gaining hands‑on experience across emergency/critical care, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and surgery.
