Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a skilled ICU Veterinary Technician to support our Critical Care team. You will provide advanced nursing care to critically ill inpatients, including anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery in a high-energy setting.

The role involves triaging emergencies, monitoring vitals, and performing radiography and vascular access procedures. We value mentorship, client empathy, and ongoing skill development within a dynamic hospital.

Qualifications

• Experience as a veterinary technician in ICU or critical care.
• Ability to triage emergency cases and monitor vitals.
• Proficiency with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and interpret readings; alert veterinarian as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy and place IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place feeding tubes and central venous catheters.
• Mentor and train other staff; address client concerns effectively.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to support our Critical Care team. In this role, you’ll provide advanced nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Pay:

$27.00 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

_ This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. _

We also offer competitive shift differentials for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential

• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential

• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As an ICU Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitorand recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.

• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rateand blood pressure.

• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.

• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.

• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.

• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.

• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.

• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.

• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.

• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.

• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
