Job summary

Pima Medical Institute in Mesa, AZ, is seeking a Veterinary Technician Clinical Director to lead the clinical education component of the Veterinary Technician Program at the East Valley campus.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program (USDE/CHEA recognition preferred).
  • Active CVT/RVT or DVM license in good standing.
  • Minimum of three years of practical veterinary field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Affiliations & Site Management: secure and manage clinical rotation sites and contracts.
  • Site Visits: evaluate student performance and collaborate with site preceptors.
  • Student Placement: coordinate scheduling and placements for clinical education.
  • Curriculum & Didactic Delivery: coordinate clinical and didactic education; may teach in classroom/lab.
  • Competency Assessment: develop objectives, monitor skill evaluations, maintain grade records.
  • Student Retention & Mentorship: support 80%+ student success with guidance and retention plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: revise education plans and suggest curriculum enhancements.
  • Admissions & Compliance: assist with applicant interviews; enforce safety and professional standards.

Type: Full-Time | Salaried Exempt

Compensation: $70,935 – $88,670 per year

Position Summary

Shape the future of veterinary medicine in the East Valley! Pima Medical Institute is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician Clinical Director to lead the clinical education component of our Veterinary Technician Program at our East Valley campus in Mesa, AZ.

In this pivotal academic leadership role, you will bridge classroom theory with hands‑on clinical practice. You will secure and maintain clinical affiliation partnerships, coordinate student rotations, evaluate clinical competencies, and mentor adult learners to ensure high student success and graduation outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Affiliations & Site Management:

  • Partner Development: Secure new clinical rotation sites and negotiate contractual agreements. Ensure all clinical contracts remain current, accurate, and aligned with program accreditation needs.
  • Site Relations & Visits: Conduct site visits across clinical affiliates to evaluate student performance, review learning progress, and collaborate with site preceptors/instructors.
  • Student Placement: Coordinate student scheduling and site placements to ensure a comprehensive, effective clinical education experience.

Instruction & Academic Leadership:

  • Curriculum & Didactic Delivery: Coordinate both clinical and didactic education for the Veterinary Technician Program. Perform instructor duties in the classroom and lab as needed.
  • Competency Assessment: Develop clinical learning objectives, monitor student skill evaluations, and maintain accurate grade books in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Student Retention & Mentorship: Maintain an 80%+ student success rate by tracking progress, meeting with students to provide academic guidance, and implementing retention plans to minimize withdrawals.

Departmental Administration & Compliance:

  • Continuous Improvement: Revise clinical education plans and recommend curriculum enhancements to the Program Director.
  • Admissions & Compliance: Assist the Program Director with interviewing and screening student applicants. Enforce all safety guidelines, biohazard handling protocols, and professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program recognized by the USDE or CHEA. (Baccalaureate degree preferred).
  • Licensure/Credential: Active, current credential as a Certified/Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT) or Licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in good standing.
  • Field Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of occupational (practical) experience within the veterinary field.
