Job Summary

We are seeking aVeterinary Technician Assistantfor ourDiscovery site located inWorcester.

TheVeterinary Technician Assistantwill assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all laboratory animal health cases. Also responsible for daily health observations, preventative health care, environment enrichment and handling and restrain of laboratory animals. In addition, this individual will may also perform technical in-life procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all animal health cases noted by technical staff and/or Veterinarians.
  • Perform routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills including the following:
    • Generate animal treatment records and perform treatment distribution
    • Administration of various therapeutic measures by IM, SQ, topical, oral routes, etc. o Proficient animal restraint techniques.
    • Observe basic care animals o Daily walk through of animal rooms
    • Participate in colony management (new NHP processing, TB testing, collection of biological samples, routine health monitoring, etc.)
    • Animal observations, reporting abnormalities
    • Perform animal follow-ups as needed
  • Monitor animal heath, visually and by following detailed schedules.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping procedures for the veterinary department May perform routine technical and husbandry functions (general housekeeping) on studies and must adhere to safety procedures.
  • May assist in surgical pack preparation and cleaning of surgical instruments. Assistance in acclimation and behavior management of animals in our care.
  • Provide environmental enrichment for laboratory animals according to facility and Federal guidelines.
  • Assist in keeping inventory and stocking the vet rooms (i.e. drugs and supplies).
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining the vet exam rooms.
  • Record keeping of required logs.
  • Triage and recheck non-USDA covered species.

The pay range for this position starts at $22 to $24 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience:1-2 years related experience in a laboratory animal facility.related experience working with animals in pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting; experience working with a CRO with multi-species preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure:ALAT preferred
  • Other:None.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • LVT license or CVT/RVT certification.
  • AALAS certification.
