Job summary

Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician - Anesthesia to provide safe and effective anesthesia services for a diverse patient population. You will work closely with a veterinary anesthesiologist and surgical team to plan, prepare, administer, and monitor anesthesia and perioperative care.

The role emphasizes accurate record-keeping, patient comfort, and continuous education.

Qualifications

  • Must have or be eligible for CVT/LVT/RVT licensure.
  • Solid understanding of veterinary terminology, medications, and disease processes.
  • Strong communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize, stay organized, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to exceptional patient and client care.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in continuing education and case discussions to stay current with anesthesia practices.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Technician - Anesthesia at Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital, you’ll be responsible for providing safe and effective anesthesia services to a diverse array of patients. In this role, you will:

  • Plan and prepare individualized anesthesia protocols in collaboration with a veterinary anesthesiologist and other specialists.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia, using advanced equipment to track vital signs, depth of anesthesia, and patient comfort.
  • Assist during surgical and diagnostic procedures, anticipating the needs of the veterinary team and adapting to rapid changes in patient status.
  • Manage perioperative pain control, administering medications and monitoring pain levels to ensure patient comfort.
  • Help maintain accurate records of anesthesia protocols, drug usage, and patient responses to ensure consistent and informed care.
  • Maintain a calm, organized workspace, ensuring quick access to necessary supplies and troubleshooting equipment as needed.
  • Engage in continuing education and case discussions, keeping abreast of the latest anesthesia protocols, monitoring techniques, and best practices.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following schedule:

Four 10-hour shifts with one weekend day/month

Compensation
  • $22-26/hour, commensurate with experience and licensure
