Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital – Charlestown, MA is seeking a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Technician to work alongside our board-certified Anesthesiologist. You will participate in pre-operative planning, intraoperative monitoring, and post-operative care for diverse patients.

The role offers weekdays with 4x10 hour shifts and pay ranging from $27 to $49 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our competency tool.

Responsibilities

• Assist in anesthesia procedures and formulate anesthetic plans.
• Monitor anesthesia and troubleshoot complications.
• Perform IV catheter placement and endotracheal intubation.
• Record vital signs and assess patient status.
• Set up fluids and CRIs.
• Manage appointments, medical records, invoicing, and discharges.
• Care for patients from pre-op through recovery.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Charlestown, MA is seeking a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Technician to work alongside our board-certified Anesthesiologist.

Schedule:

Weekdays, 4x10 hour shifts

Pay:

$27.00 - $49.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

As An Anesthesia Veterinary Technician, You Will

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
• Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Comfortable with medical math.
• Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
• Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for LVTs and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for LVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150/year. Full-time LVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
