Job description

We are pleased to offer a job opportunity for a Veterinary Technician position in the Animal Services Department. DuPage County Animal Services (DCAS) is an immediate open admission shelter caring for more than 2,300 animals of various species annually.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain health checklists and assist veterinarians in medical rounds
  • Communicate animal health concerns to veterinarians
  • Monitor animal population, flow, and status in shelter/foster
  • Assist veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures using proper aseptic techniques
  • Maintain surgical schedules and communicate updates
  • Induce anesthesia and perform catheterizations
  • Clean and bandage wounds as ordered
  • Monitor animal observations and administer medications as directed
  • Perform euthanasia when necessary and handle related procedures
  • Maintain and repair medical equipment
  • Conduct routine laboratory procedures and analyses
  • Obtain and develop radiographs and vital signs
  • Provide critical care, including fluids and CPR
  • Support fosters with medical protocols and routine care
  • Maintain medical records, inventory, and medication refills
  • Assist with intake vaccinations and medical assessments
  • Perform dental cleanings, grooming, and other procedures
  • Ensure a clean and organized medical environment
  • Provide training and presentations for staff and volunteers
  • Transport animals to veterinary hospitals as needed
Requirements include:
  • Completion of an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology
  • Three years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, or five years of experience in total
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license
  • Certification as an Euthanasia Technician within one year of hire
