This isn't your typical veterinary assistant position. You'll work hands-on with hospitalized equine patients, collaborate closely with veterinarians and technicians, and play an important role in providing the attentive, around-the-clock care our patients need.

And with three 12-hour shifts each week, you'll have four days off to enjoy outside of work.

What You'll Do

As part of our ICU/Hospital Barn team, you'll help provide hands-on nursing care and support for hospitalized equine patients. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Monitoring hospitalized patients and recognizing changes in their condition
  • Administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinary team
  • Assisting with IV catheter care, fluid therapy, and other prescribed treatments
  • Obtaining and recording physical examinations and patient observations
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory samples
  • Assisting veterinarians and technicians with critical care and emergency cases
  • Maintaining accurate, timely patient treatment records and communicating patient updates to the veterinary team
  • Safely handling and restraining equine patients using proper techniques and good horse sense
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and patient-ready hospital environment
  • Working closely with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and other members of the hospital team to provide exceptional patient care
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is confident around horses, takes pride in providing excellent patient care, and understands that hospitalized patients require attention to detail, consistency, communication, and teamwork.

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Strong equine handling skills and working knowledge of equine behavior
  • Veterinary nursing skills and familiarity with common veterinary terminology
  • Ability to safely restrain equine patients
  • Ability to follow written and verbal treatment instructions accurately
  • Ability to read medication labels and calculate medication dosages
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for short distances
  • Dependability and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment
Even Better If You Have
  • Experience administering IV, IM, Sub-Q, and oral medications
  • Experience with IV catheter placement and patient monitoring

At Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery, you'll be part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional equine veterinary care while continuing to grow your own skills and experience.

Our Weatherford hospital provides access to advanced equine medicine, including intensive and emergency care, surgery, diagnostic services, sports medicine, and rehabilitation—giving our team exposure to a diverse range of patients and cases.
