Job summary

Trail Pet Hospital is seeking a dependable Veterinary Technician to join our growing small animal practice. You will assist veterinarians during exams, surgeries, and dental procedures, while also restraining animals and gathering histories.

Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience required.
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiology, laboratory procedures, and anesthesia monitoring preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of animal handling and restraint techniques.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and veterinary software.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgeries, and dental procedures.
  • Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats.
  • Obtain patient histories, vital signs, and perform patient assessments.
  • Draw blood from standard venous access points.
  • Place IV catheters and administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments.
  • Run in-house laboratory tests and prepare samples for outside laboratories.
  • Perform radiographs and assist with diagnostic imaging.
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in condition.
  • Input medical notes, treatments, and charges into the practice management system.
  • Educate clients on medications, preventive care, nutrition, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Keep the hospital clean, organized, and stocked.
  • Cross-train in basic client service responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
