Job summary

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment in Florida is seeking a veterinary technician to assist our veterinary hospital team with animal health programs and welfare across a diverse collection of species.

You will prepare and assist with triage, diagnostics, and procedures, collect samples, and maintain accurate medical records (TRACKS). The role requires standing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and flexibility for weekend work; Florida certification must be reachable within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age and valid state driver's license.
  • At least two years of veterinary technician experience required.
  • Exotic animal or zoo animal care experience is preferred.
  • Certification/Registration/License in Veterinary Technology and able to receive certification by the state of Florida within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Availability to include weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and move 25 pounds and over when needed.

What you get to do:
  • Assist veterinary hospital team with animal health programs pertaining to preventative medicine, animal illnesses, and animal welfare.
  • Apply comparative veterinary technical skills to diverse collection of animals (hoofstock of various size, large carnivores, small mammals, fish, reptiles, avian, amphibians, invertebrates, etc.).
  • Prepare and assist with animal triage, diagnostic imaging, and procedures.
  • Collect, transport, and process samples while maintaining clear records.
  • Prepare samples for analyses in, but not limited to, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology and research projects.
  • Assist with medical data entry into our electronic animal medical records system (TRACKS).
  • Coordinate animal exams/procedures, medical treatment, and routine sample collection.
  • Maintain pharmacy by dispensing medications and other supplies as requested.
  • Assist with inventories on a regular basis and communicate with hospital management to restock as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance of surgery and treatment rooms, anesthesia equipment, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist animal care staff with training for medical behaviors.
  • Assist and participate in other related duties as assigned.
What it takes to succeed:

At least 18 years of age and must have valid state driver's license.

At least two years of veterinary technician experience required.

Exotic animal or zoo animal care experience is preferred.

Available to work weekends and holidays.

Willingness to work evenings in the rare event of an emergency, procedure, or animal care need.

Medical procedures require standing, walking, using hands, listening, talking, smell and colored vision.

Able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Able to work outdoors, indoors, as well as in or around refrigeration and freezer units which create moderate noise.

Ability to move patient and equipment, therefore must be able to lift and move 25 pounds and over at times.

Ability to adapt and remain flexible to accommodate an ever-changing caseload and daily schedule.

Excellent communication skills to foster a collaborative team environment and effectively distribute information to various teams across the park.

Maintaining records, computer data entry, dispensing pharmaceuticals, and ordering supplies require a detail-oriented person able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and databases, including digital medical records (TRACKS).

Able to work with limited exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation.

Protective equipment is provided when necessary.

Able to positively interact with park guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.

Enthusiastically represent United Parks and Resorts by displaying a positive attitude, exemplifying, highly organized, detailed-oriented time-management skills with high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.

What else is important:

Certification/Registration/License in Veterinary Technology and able to receive certification by the state of Florida within the first 6 months of employment.

Minimum of 2 years work experience as a veterinary technician (zoological facility preferred).

Availability to include weekends and holidays
