Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Skokie, IL is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join our team!

Position: Emergency Veterinary Technician (CVT licensing not required).

Work Schedule: Full Time; Day/Swing/Overnights. Part Time shifts available.

Pay Range APCAI/CVTII: $23.20 - $38.80/hour

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

  1. Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  2. Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  3. Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
  4. Assist with or perform CT, endoscopy, and ultrasonography.
  5. Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  6. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes and issues.
  7. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  8. Calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  9. Proficiently perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  10. Place and maintain feeding tubes, drains, PICC line catheters, and central line catheters.
  11. Mentor and train other team members.
  12. Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
  13. Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R (basic and advanced) CPR guidelines; ALS and BLS certification is provided at no cost.

As an ICU Veterinary Technician, you will:

  1. Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  2. Understand normal ranges of patient vital signs, including heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  3. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, alert veterinarians to changes.
  4. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  5. Calculate medical math (including CRIs) and administer medications appropriately.
  6. Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
  7. Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  8. Mentor and train co-workers.
  9. Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
