Job summary

Rarebreed Veterinary Partners in Portland, ME seeks a Veterinary Technician to join our urgent care team. You will assist doctors, perform exams, radiographs, and lab work, and help with anesthesia under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to pet patients and families.

  • Explain follow-up care and home instructions.
  • Stock treatment areas and notify inventory needs.
  • Assist veterinarians with surgical, dental, and medical tasks.
  • Collect and process lab samples; analyze results.

PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic is looking to add a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to our team. At PetMedic, you can help shape the exciting new world of veterinary urgent care. As part of our team, you'll work with the latest technology, stay ahead through ongoing training, and partner with experienced doctors to deliver the highest quality of care to the pet patients we all love.

Veterinary Technician

PetMedic in Portland, ME

$26.00 - $29.00 hourly pay rate

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Provide compassionate care to pet patients and their loved ones
  • Keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy
  • Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Perform physical assessments and record your observations
  • Keep furry friends calm and still during procedures
  • Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients
  • Explain necessary follow-up and home care instructions
  • Stock clinic treatment area and exam rooms, and inform inventory manager when supplies need to be ordered
  • Assist the Veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental procedures (be comfortable with blood draws; prepare patients for surgery; administer anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids)
  • Care for all surgical materials and keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery
  • Comfortable taking radiographs, small animal restraint, triage, monitor anesthesia
  • Obtain laboratory sample collection, process and interpret results (fecal/parasite analysis, ear cytology, skin cytology, urinalysis, blood smears)
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to commit to evening shifts and one weekend day
