Position Overview:
Providing support to Veterinarians, clients, and patients through delivering excellent and quality care utilizing your knowledge and skills such as:
Veterinary Technician Job Responsibilities:
- Provide animal care by assessing animal requirements.
- Conduct examinations and diagnostic procedures.
- Assist during surgeries and procedures.
- Feed and care for animals.
- Maintain supplies and equipment.
- Keep accurate records.
- Determine animal requirements through examinations and interviews.
- Perform laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and studies.
- Take vital signs and collect samples.
- Administer medications, drugs, and vaccines.
- Bandage and wrap wounds.
- Perform hydrotherapy and other therapies.
- Support animal examinations by assembling necessary supplies and instruments.
- Explain animal health status to owners.
- Prepare surgical instruments and supplies.
- Complete local/regional anesthesia procedures.
- Place catheters and obtain blood gases as needed.
- Maintain sterile conditions.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Clean animal cages and equipment.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing areas, verifying medication shelf life, and complying with legal regulations.
- Enhance service reputation by taking ownership of tasks and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Maintain controlled drug logs monthly in accordance with state laws and company policies.
- Review monthly inactivated and deceased patient files to ensure proper record keeping.
Veterinary Technician Qualifications / Skills:
- Knowledge of animal behavior and husbandry.
- Love for animals.
- Strong documentation and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with medical technologies.
- Attention to detail and patience.
- Effective verbal communication.
- Technical understanding of veterinary procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Completion of a two-year AVMA-accredited program from a college or university.
- State-specific license certification.
- Externship experience.
