Job summary

Locust Valley Veterinary Clinic in Locust Valley, NY seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to support the surgical team with anesthesia, patient care, and postoperative monitoring.

You will collaborate with veterinarians, cross-train across hospital areas, and contribute to high-quality medicine in a fast-paced, client‑focused environment.

Qualifications

  • NY LVT license in good standing.
  • 3 years of veterinary medicine experience.
  • Surgical or anesthesia experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care: restraint, catheter placement, postoperative monitoring, wound care, bandage changes.
  • Assist veterinarians with surgical procedures: patient prep, anesthesia induction and monitoring, recovery care.
  • Monitor vitals and ensure patient safety during surgeries.
  • Perform in-house diagnostics: blood collection, urinalysis, cytology, lab tests.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical suites, equipment, and instruments.
  • Administer medications as directed.
  • Maintain medical records and use practice software.
  • Educate clients on postoperative care and medications.

Department: Veterinary Technicians

Location: Locust Valley, New York

Compensation: $30.00 - $33.00 / hour

Position Details
  • Full-time schedule

Here is What Your day May Consist of:
  • Providing exceptional nursing care, including patient restraint, catheter placement, postoperative monitoring, wound care, and bandage changes.
  • Assisting veterinarians with surgical procedures, including patient preparation, anesthesia induction and monitoring, and recovery care.
  • Monitoring vital signs and ensuring patient safety throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Performing diagnostic and laboratory procedures, including blood collection, urinalysis, cytology, and in-house laboratory testing.
  • Preparing and maintaining surgical suites, equipment, and instruments.
  • Administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and utilizing our practice management software effectively.
  • Educating clients on postoperative care, medications, and follow-up instructions.
  • Ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients, clients, and team members.
Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:
Education & Licensure
  • Current New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in good standing.
Experience
  • 3 years of previous veterinary medicine experience
  • Surgical or anesthesia experience preferred.
  • General practice or specialty experience is a plus.
Personal Requirements
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast‑paced situations.
  • Compassion and confidence when working with ill, injured, or anxious animals.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals (over 40 pounds with assistance), stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks throughout the day.

  • Demonstrated competency in anesthesia monitoring, patient care, and surgical support.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dedication to maintaining an efficient, clean, and patient‑centered environment.
