Job summary

Locust Valley Veterinary Clinic in Locust Valley, New York, seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join a collaborative team focused on surgical support and patient care. The role emphasizes anesthesia, patient monitoring, and postoperative nursing across a fast-paced hospital setting.

The ideal candidate holds a NY LVT license with at least 3 years of veterinary experience, preferably with surgical or anesthesia exposure.

Qualifications

  • New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician in good standing.
  • Minimum of 3 years veterinary medicine experience.
  • Surgical or anesthesia experience preferred.
  • General practice or specialty experience is a plus.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional in fast-paced settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care including restraint, catheter placement, postop monitoring, wound care.
  • Assist veterinarians with surgical procedures, anesthesia induction and recovery.
  • Monitor vital signs and ensure patient safety during procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic and lab procedures: blood collection, urinalysis, cytology, in-house tests.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical suites, equipment and instruments.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and use practice management software.
  • Educate clients on postoperative care, meds and follow-up instructions.
  • Ensure a clean, organized and safe environment for patients and staff.

Here is What Your day May Consist of:
  • Providing exceptional nursing care, including patient restraint, catheter placement, postoperative monitoring, wound care, and bandage changes.
  • Assisting veterinarians with surgical procedures, including patient preparation, anesthesia induction and monitoring, and recovery care.
  • Monitoring vital signs and ensuring patient safety throughout all surgical procedures.
  • Performing diagnostic and laboratory procedures, including blood collection, urinalysis, cytology, and in-house laboratory testing.
  • Preparing and maintaining surgical suites, equipment, and instruments.

Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:
  • Current New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license in good standing.
  • 3 years of previous veterinary medicine experience
  • Surgical or anesthesia experience preferred.
  • General practice or specialty experience is a plus.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced situations.
  • Compassion and confidence when working with ill, injured, or anxious animals.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals (over 40 pounds with assistance), stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Demonstrated competency in anesthesia monitoring, patient care, and surgical support.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dedication to maintaining an efficient, clean, and patient-centered environment.
