Job summary

Horton Animal Hospital-Discovery is seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, or RVT to join our dedicated team. The role offers three overnight shifts per week (7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) with a focus on compassionate care, teamwork, and growth opportunities within a supportive hospital.

Ideal candidates bring 1–2 years of small‑animal experience, comfort with emergencies, and strong communication skills. We value ideas, mentorship, and a balanced life outside the hospital.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in a small-animal veterinary practice.
• Emergency, urgent-care, or critical-care experience.
• Overnight and weekend availability as scheduled.
• Strong communication, client service, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with patient restraint, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, and hospital workflow.
• Familiarity with standard hospital procedures and protocols.
• Ability to stay professional, compassionate, and calm in fast-paced situations.
• Dependability and consistent attendance.
• Ability to stand for long shifts and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Welcome clients, obtain histories, and collect vitals.
• Support hospitalized patients with nursing care, monitoring, hygiene, and comfort.
• Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and urgent-care cases.
• Restrain and position patients for procedures and imaging.
• Perform venipuncture, collect samples, and place IV catheters.
• Complete in-house laboratory procedures and assist with imaging.
• Fill prescriptions and support medication preparation as directed.
• Assist with patient intake, hospitalization, and discharge.
• Maintain medical documentation, treatment records, and billing information.
• Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment.
• Support anesthesia monitoring and surgical procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized hospital environment.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do

• Welcome clients, obtain verbal histories, and collect patient temperatures, pulses, and respiratory rates
• Support hospitalized patients with compassionate nursing care, monitoring, hygiene, and comfort
• Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and urgent‑care cases
• Safely restrain and position patients for medical procedures and diagnostic imaging
• Perform venipuncture, collect diagnostic samples, and place intravenous catheters
• Complete in‑house laboratory procedures and assist with diagnostic imaging
• Fill prescriptions and support medication preparation as directed
• Assist with patient intake, hospitalization, and discharge
• Maintain accurate medical documentation, treatment records, and billing information
• Clean, maintain, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
• Support anesthesia monitoring and surgical procedures based on your training and experience
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and well‑stocked hospital environment

What Our Veterinary Technicians Bring

• At least one to two years of experience in a small‑animal veterinary practice
• Previous emergency, urgent‑care, or critical‑care experience
• Availability to work overnight and weekend shifts as scheduled
