Job summary

Horton Animal Hospital-Discovery is seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, or RVT to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role offers three overnight shifts per week from 7:00 p.m.

to 7:00 a.m., with a focus on compassionate patient care and collaborative teamwork. You will support veterinarians, manage admitted patients, perform nursing tasks, venipuncture, and assist with diagnostics in a fast-paced, friendly hospital.

Qualifications

• At least 1–2 years of experience in a small-animal veterinary practice.
• Previous emergency, urgent-care, or critical-care experience.
• Availability to work overnight and weekend shifts as scheduled.
• Strong communication, client service, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with patient restraint, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, and hospital workflow.
• Familiarity with standard veterinary hospital procedures and protocols.
• Ability to remain professional, compassionate, and calm in fast-paced situations.
• Dependability and consistent attendance.
• Ability to stand for a 12-hour shift and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Welcome clients, obtain verbal histories, and collect patient temperatures, pulses, and respiratory rates.
• Support hospitalized patients with nursing care, monitoring, hygiene, and comfort.
• Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and urgent-care cases.
• Restrain and position patients for procedures and diagnostic imaging.
• Perform venipuncture, collect samples, and place IV catheters.
• Complete in-house laboratory procedures and assist with diagnostics.
• Fill prescriptions and support medication preparation as directed.
• Assist with patient intake, hospitalization, and discharge; maintain records and billing.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do

• Welcome clients, obtain verbal histories, and collect patient temperatures, pulses, and respiratory rates
• Support hospitalized patients with compassionate nursing care, monitoring, hygiene, and comfort
• Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and urgent-care cases
• Safely restrain and position patients for medical procedures and diagnostic imaging
• Perform venipuncture, collect diagnostic samples, and place intravenous catheters
• Complete in-house laboratory procedures and assist with diagnostic imaging
• Fill prescriptions and support medication preparation as directed
• Assist with patient intake, hospitalization, and discharge
• Maintain accurate medical documentation, treatment records, and billing information
• Clean, maintain, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
• Support anesthesia monitoring and surgical procedures based on your training and experience
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked hospital environment
