Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch is looking for a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team of compassionate professionals. As a Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech, you will play a crucial role in the hospital by assisting veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals while ensuring they have a comfortable and positive experience. Your work will directly impact the health and well-being of our patients, and you will also work alongside a team that is committed to providing excellent service to both clients and pets.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

As a Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech with Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Triage and Patient Assessment:
  • Perform initial patient assessments, including evaluating vital signs and overall health status.
  • Assist with triaging emergency cases to prioritize care based on severity.
    
    
• Venipuncture & Blood Draws:
  • Proficiently perform venipuncture for blood draws in both routine and emergency cases.
  • Handle lab samples accurately and ensure timely processing for diagnostics.
    
    
• Hospitalization & Patient Care:
  • Manage hospitalized patients, monitoring their condition and providing necessary treatments under the supervision of the veterinarian.
  • Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Perform patient rounds to ensure comfort and proper care.
    
    
• Surgical Assistance & Anesthesia Monitoring:
  • Assist in surgeries, including prepping surgical sites, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique.
  • Monitor anesthesia during surgeries and assist with recovery.
    
    
• Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging:
  • Perform radiographs and assist in interpreting results alongside the veterinary team.
  • Maintain radiology equipment and ensure quality imaging.
    
    
• Cytology & Laboratory Work:
  • Prepare and examine cytology slides (e.g., skin scrapings, ear cytology) for lab analysis.
  • Assist in conducting laboratory tests (urinalysis, hematology, etc.) and process samples accordingly.
    
    
• Dental Care:
  • Provide assistance in basic dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, and charting dental conditions.
  • Educate clients on dental care and preventive practices for their pets.
    
    
• Client Education & Communication:
  • Educate pet owners about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
  • Provide high-level customer service by answering client inquiries with empathy and professionalism.
    
    
• Team Collaboration & Support:
  • Work closely with veterinarians and support staff to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior staff or new veterinary technicians.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

We are looking for candidates who have the following qualifications:

• Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical, hospital, or emergency setting.
  • Experience in triage, venipuncture, surgical assistance, radiology, and dental care is preferred.
  • Familiarity with veterinary equipment such as anesthesia machines, radiology systems, and laboratory tools.
  • Strong diagnostic and critical thinking skills to assist in patient care and treatment plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    
    
• Education:
  • A degree from an accredited veterinary technology program is required.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) is highly preferred, though not required.
