Summary

Start a rewarding career as a Veterinary Technician II at the newly established Comparative Medicine Core at Moffitt Cancer Center. This role involves overseeing and supporting Moffitt's animal research and technical operations, delivering professional veterinary care to research animals while maintaining high standards of animal care and welfare.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in a fast-paced emergency or referral veterinary practice, or a veterinary teaching hospital.
  • Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and protocols.
  • Familiarity with IACUC protocols and documentation.
  • Preferred experience with rodent breeding colonies and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Sampling, analyzing, and processing samples for research, diagnostic, and clinical purposes.
  • Performing technical procedures for researchers.
  • Coordinating scheduling, maintaining records, and logging procedures.
  • Maintaining rodent colonies and assisting with health surveillance.
  • Calculating drug doses and preparing animals for surgery.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (AMVA program) with two years of veterinary technician experience, including one year in a research setting. Alternatively, an associate’s degree (AVMA program) with six years of experience, including one in research.
  • Current veterinary technician license or certification, with VTNE documentation required upon hire.
  • AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist certification preferred.
