Job summary
Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center in Winchester, VA is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant for Surgery. The role supports anesthesia, prep, and patient care in a 24/7 emergency hospital with advanced imaging and endoscopy.
Minimum 2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant and a license/credential as a veterinary technician are required. The position offers full-time hours with 3x12 shifts, competitive pay, generous PTO, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician required.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
Responsibilities
- Properly restrain animals.
- Obtain a thorough history from pet owner.
- Record weight and basic vitals (temp, pulse, respiration).
- Assist in anesthesia induction and surgical prep.
- Prepare surgical packs and supplies.
- Set up, turn over and break down OR and prep areas.
- Follow hospital policies for critically ill patients.
- Draw up injections aseptically for doctors/technicians.
- Package and store samples.
- Assist with routine exam room procedures.
- Monitor patients' behavior.
- Maintain inventory and communicate interdepartmentally.
