Job summary

The Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA’s Veterinary Care Center is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to assist veterinarians and licensed technicians. The role involves preparing paperwork, transporting animals for surgery, instrument sterilization, and post-operative monitoring in a fast-paced setting.

Compensation ranges from $17.00 to $20.00 per hour, full-time, non-exempt, with schedule Tue-Sat 8:30am-5:00pm. Prior surgical experience is preferred; high attention to animal welfare is a must.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience as Veterinary Assistant in a surgical setting preferred.
• Ability to handle animals effectively and humanely.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Google Docs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical paperwork and discharge instructions.
• Transport animals to/from clinic for surgery.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare packs.
• Restrain patients for examinations and induction.
• Maintain clean and organized prep and surgical areas.
• Monitor patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively.
• Assist veterinarian during wellness appointments.
• Keep medical records up to date.
