Job summary

Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA's Veterinary Care Center is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support our Veterinarian and Licensed Veterinary Technician. The role involves assisting with routine surgeries, patient prep, and post-operative care in a fast-paced clinic.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $17–$20. The schedule is Tue–Sat 8:30am–5:00pm, and the clinic offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, and more to support a

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a surgical setting preferred.
• Ability to handle animals effectively and humanely.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Google Docs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical paperwork (patient charts and discharge instructions).
• Transport animals to/from clinic for surgery/procedures.
• Perform instrument cleaning, pack preparation and sterilization.
• Restrain patients for vet examinations and during induction for the LVT.
• Prepare patients for surgery (shave and scrub).
• Monitor patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively.
• Administer vaccinations and other treatments post-operatively as directed.
