Job summary

The University of Chicago's Animal Resources Center - Veterinary Services 2 - Support is seeking a Veterinary Support Technician to perform routine health rounds and assist in treatments of rodents and exotic species. You will support veterinarians, advise investigators, and participate in training programs.

Under supervision, you will help with record-keeping, data collection, and learning new laboratory techniques.

Qualifications

  • Education: college or university degree in a related field.
  • Experience: knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Licenses/Certifications: AALAS certification at any level strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, performs health assessments, analgesic management, and medical care of rodents and exotic species.
  • Communicates with veterinarians, husbandry staff, and investigators and assists with training and advising researchers and staff.
  • Records and maintains complete and accurate records and documentation.
  • Provides hands‑on rodent/exotics technique training.
  • Assists with development of new training materials and programs.
