Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Special Services Technician within the Animal Resources Center's Small Animals unit. This hands-on role supports investigators by managing rodent colonies, coordinating Transnetyx sample collection, and maintaining supplies and equipment under supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with standard operating procedures for new technologies, preparing study documentation, and ensuring laboratory quality and safety controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR High School Diploma with a minimum of 3 years of rodent husbandry experience within an academic animal care and use research program.
  • AALAS certification at any level.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs procedures with research animals in conjunction with investigative staff.
  • Assists with rodent colony management (breeding, weaning).
  • Maintains inventory and orders for specialized supplies and equipment.
