Thrive Pet Healthcare offers a Veterinary SA Rotating Internship - a 1‑Year internship designed for new graduates. Our goal is to provide training encompassing high‑quality emergency & specialty care and client communication, and to equip interns for a long, successful career in veterinary medicine. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a veterinary license in the United States and be able to start on June 14, 2027.

Locations

• Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists – Hoffman Estates/Chicago, IL
• Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle – Lynnwood, WA
• Thrive North Scottsdale – AZ

VSC Seattle has hosted rotating interns since 2005 and serves the greater Puget Sound area. The Hoffman Estates location opened November 2023, and the Scottsdale location was remodeled and expanded in 2026, each staffed by specialists and ER doctors experienced in internship programs.

Program Overview

Interns receive a well‑rounded educational experience that begins with orientation, a FASTVet ultrasound course, CPR and procedures labs, weekly intern rounds, and monthly radiology rounds. Each morning, specialists and house officers attend inpatient case rounds.

Core Rotations

• Emergency & Critical Care – 5‑6 months
• Surgery – 1‑2 months
• Internal Medicine – 1‑2 months
• Neurology – 1‑2 months
• Oncology, Cardiology, and electives – 1–4 weeks, adjustable with mentor guidance

Responsibilities

• Take primary case responsibility from day one.
• Manage new ER cases under the supervision of a staff doctor, including holidays and overnights.
• Develop ultrasound skills through daily use of the ER and specialty ultrasound suites.
• Participate in grand rounds presentations, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality discussions, and, in some cases, continuing education lectures.

Additional Support

Each intern receives individual online access to a University Library via Thrive’s partnership with LMU, as well as onsite reference books in the intern office. Interns are matched with a mentor for guidance throughout the year, with quarterly mentor evaluations to support growth.

• Recent veterinary graduate eligible for a U.S. veterinary license.
