Thrive Pet Healthcare offers an ER Academy – a 1‑Year emergency medicine‑focused internship designed for new graduates. The program trains interns in high‑quality emergency care and client communication, equipping them for a long and successful career in emergency medicine.
Interns are scheduled with a senior veterinarian committed to mentorship. They present cases and receive feedback while seeing patients. Within the first month, interns have primary case responsibility and, as experience develops, will cut surgical cases. Interns work most weekends and holidays to maximize the internship experience.
Candidates must be currently eligible to obtain a veterinary license in the United States.
The interns across all locations will join an in‑person orientation, a Fall Retreat in Austin, TX, surgical training, and weekly didactic rounds. They will participate in journal clubs, grand rounds, and case rounds, building a collaborative community.
By the end of the internship, interns will be proficient in emergency medicine presentations, equipping them to enter any emergency veterinary facility confidently. The program provides phased oversight, with no shifts alone for at least the first six months, and supervised surgery in a range of soft‑tissue procedures such as C‑sections, pyometra surgery, gastrotomies, enterotomies, R&As, GDV/gastropexies, splenectomies, cystotomies, and occasionally amputations.
At Thrive Pet Healthcare, we celebrate and embrace the uniqueness and diversity of all our team members, pet parents, and pets. We strive to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture where all team members belong and feel empowered.
