Job summary

San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Manager of Veterinary Nursing Operations to lead the Hospital Nursing team, ensuring smooth client journeys, patient care, and facility readiness. The role partners with hospital leadership to drive process improvements and uphold regulatory compliance.

The position emphasizes staff development, on-floor leadership, and continuous improvement to deliver high-quality veterinary care and exceptional client experience to a community-focused nonprofit.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in veterinary medicine with operations and leadership
  • 3+ years of progressive leadership supervising veterinary teams
  • RVT credential preferred but not required
  • Experience improving veterinary workflows and processes
  • Experience managing technician utilization and clinical capacity
  • Strong understanding of veterinary nursing workflows and equipment maintenance
  • Experience overseeing dental operations is strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to increase efficiency while maintaining high patient care standards
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift and handle animals and equipment as needed
  • Experience as a Veterinary Practice Manager or similar role valued

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the hospital nursing team in partnership with the Nursing Care Manager
  • Drive client satisfaction and streamline the client and patient journey
  • Maintain on-the-floor presence to boost operational efficiency and clear communication
  • Lead continuous improvement of client experience and key touchpoints
  • Develop standard work and workflows for the team
  • Assist with hospital policies including DEA and OSHA compliance
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and preventive maintenance scheduling
  • Coordinate with vendors for repairs and servicing
  • Maintain equipment inventory, warranties, and service contracts
  • Train staff on proper equipment use and troubleshooting
  • Conduct safety, cleanliness, and functionality walkthroughs
  • Provide on-floor coaching for RVT and VA team members
  • Participate in planning, goal setting, and management meetings
  • Assist in hiring, coaching, and evaluations of staff and management
  • Ensure follow-up on client concerns and escalations
  • Perform quality checks on patient charges and documentation
  • Arrange coverage for call outs and outages
  • Perform other duties as needed
