Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center is seeking a Veterinary Medical Oncologist to lead advanced cancer care in a regional specialty hospital. You will manage diverse oncology cases and collaborate with multiple specialty teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans.

The role emphasizes mentorship, access to advanced imaging and in-house labs, and a commitment to exemplary patient care within the Ethos Veterinary Health network.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with Oregon licensure eligibility.
• Board Certification in Veterinary Medical Oncology (DACVIM – Oncology) or Residency Trained and board eligible.
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills with an interest in managing complex oncology cases.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse and complex oncology caseload with the hospital's multidisciplinary team.
• Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans for oncologic patients.
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and tailor recommendations per diagnosis and quality of life.
• Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Dermatology, and other services on cancer cases.
• Utilize CT, ultrasound, and in-house lab services to support workups and planning.
• Coordinate cancer care from diagnosis through treatment, monitoring, and follow-up.
• Mentor technicians and support staff in chemotherapy administration and monitoring.

For a Medical Oncologist, SOVSC offers the opportunity to manage a diverse referral caseload with access to advanced diagnostics, surgery, emergency and critical care, and a highly trained support team. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, multiple surgical suites, a dedicated orthopedic suite, an onsite pharmacy, a comprehensive in-house laboratory, and an internal blood donation program.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage a diverse and complex oncology caseload in collaboration with the hospital's multidisciplinary specialty team
• Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans for patients with a variety of malignancies
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and provide thoughtful, individualized recommendations based on each patient's diagnosis, prognosis, and quality-of-life considerations
• Collaborate closely with Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Dermatology, and other specialty teams on complex cancer cases
• Utilize advanced diagnostic capabilities, including CT, ultrasound, digital radiography, and comprehensive in-house laboratory services, to support oncology workups and treatment planning
• Coordinate comprehensive cancer care from initial diagnosis through treatment, monitoring, and follow-up
• Collaborate with the hospital's surgical team on patients requiring oncologic procedures
• Work closely with Emergency and Critical Care teams when caring for medically compromised or hospitalized oncology patients
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, and ongoing care
• Build strong relationships with referring veterinarians and serve as a trusted oncology resource for the Southern Oregon and surrounding veterinary community
• Mentor technicians and support staff involved in chemotherapy administration, patient monitoring, and oncology case management
• Help grow and develop the Medical Oncology service in alignment with hospital and community needs
• Pursue continuing education and professional development opportunities within oncology and the broader Ethos network
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, compassion, innovation, and clinical excellence
