Job summary

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) in Fort Wayne, IN, seeks a Medical Director to guide a large, AAHA-accredited, and VECCS Level II facility into its next chapter of clinical excellence.

The successful leader will oversee medical strategy, mentor veterinarians across Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, and Oncology, and maintain a partial clinical caseload while supporting recruitment and continuing education.

Qualifications

• Board certification or AVMA specialty residency required.
• Proven leadership or medical management experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with colleagues and referring veterinarians.
• Eligibility for Indiana veterinary licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical leadership and strategic direction for the hospital.
• Partner with the Hospital Director to achieve operational excellence.
• Mentor and develop veterinarians across specialties.
• Lead medical quality assurance and continuing education initiatives.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of clinicians.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain a partial clinical caseload to remain actively involved in patient care.
