Job summary

Zoetis Reference Laboratories in Louisville is seeking a Lab Assistant to support the diagnostics team in clinical parasitology and related testing areas. The role involves accessioning, sample prep, and maintaining equipment, with a shift Tue–Sat from 4:00 am to 12:30 pm.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, 1+ year in a clinical lab preferred, and strong attention to detail. Veterinary lab experience is a plus, and English fluency is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
• Veterinary laboratory experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unpack biological specimens in a timely manner.
• Accession integrated requisitions and/or manual requisitions against company targets.
• Actively transport samples to relevant departments in the lab with urgency.
• Handle and store all biological specimens in accordance with ZRL SOP.
• Prepare biological specimens for testing in various departments, including parasitology.
• Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
• Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
• Fill out laboratory logs (maintenance, environmental, cleaning) consistently.
• Maintain records including medical records, courier logs and manifests.
• Prepare specimens for shipment to offsite testing facilities following DOT regulations.
• Receive, store, and log laboratory and office supplies.
• Operate and maintain secondary lab equipment (centrifuges, pipettes, heaters, slide stainers).
• Follow SOPs and Zoetis Reference Laboratories training modules.
• Execute duties with minimal oversight.
• Assist training for Lab Assistant I responsibilities.
• Ad-hoc projects or tasks as assigned.
