Program Description

Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is seeking passionate and motivated veterinarians to join our Emergency-Focused Internship Program. This unique opportunity is ideal for recent graduates or veterinarians looking to launch a rewarding career in emergency medicine. Unlike a traditional rotating internship, this program is specifically designed to provide hands‑on clinical experience, individualized mentorship, and professional growth opportunities. Over the course of this immersive year‑long program, interns develop the skills and confidence needed to become competent, independent, and productive emergency veterinarians.

Program Details

• Duration: 13 months
• Objective: To develop well‑rounded, confident emergency veterinarians through comprehensive clinical exposure and mentorship.
• Shift Structure: The schedule is divided evenly among four shift type, daytime ER, overnight ER, hospitalist, and specialty block.
• Hours: Three consecutive 12‑hour shifts per week, with an additional surgery day during hospitalist and daytime ER rotations (average 42 hours/week).
• Active participation in ER departmental meetings, Fellow Rounds, lectures, journal clubs, and Morbidity & Mortality rounds
• Mentorship: One‑on‑one mentorship on every case, with interns maintaining primary case responsibility.
• Species Exposure: Interns manage canine, feline, and exotic emergency cases.

Educational Components

• Weekly intern rounds covering core ER topics
• Intern‑led annual case discussions
• Specialty blocks providing hands‑on exposure to internal medicine, surgery, radiology, neurology, and other areas of interest

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple hospitalized and incoming emergency cases under supervision
• Perform spays, neuters, and basic soft tissue surgeries under guided mentorship
• Participate in patient care rounds and case discussions
• Collaborate with experienced ER veterinarians, specialists, and support staff
• Attend hospital‑provided continuing education sessions and training workshops
• Maintain accurate medical records and contribute to high‑quality patient care

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
• Active New Jersey veterinary license or eligibility for licensure
