Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists in Hoffman Estates, IL is seeking a Veterinary Hospital Assistant. This full-time role supports the hospital team with cleaning, maintenance, and patient handling.

Weekend availability is required, and candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with animal restraint and handling. Training will be provided to learn temperament-based handling and troubleshooting as needed.

Qualifications

• Weekend availability required.

• Experience with companion animal restraint and basic handling preferred.
• Willing to learn and apply knowledge in controlling/handling animal temperament.
• Ability to troubleshoot and fix issues efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect ward areas regularly to prevent soiling and odors.
• Perform routine maintenance on non-medical devices (kennel doors, appliances, laundry, outdoor areas).
• Clean treatment areas and follow isolation cleaning procedures.
• Assist with stock supplies across departments.
• Set up and dismantle events; assist with employee enrichment and engagement.

Full-time-Sunday - Thursday 11a-7p

Job Overview:

The Hospital Assistant provides ease of flow and the basic needs for the hospital team to perform their medical duties. Mechanical and animal handling skills are required. Duties include, but not limited to:

• Thoroughly clean and disinfect the ward areas of the hospital as often as necessary (i.e. to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent)
• Provide routine maintenance on all non-medical devices which would include but not be limited to:
• kennel doors
• breakroom appliances
• laundry machinery
• outside play yard turfing
• Thoroughly clean treatment areas and follow proper procedures for the cleaning of isolation
• Assist with various departments stock supplies
• Event set up and dismantle
• Assist employee enrichment inventory
• Assist employee engagement functions
• At the request of the medical care team, assist with patient and animal handling for examination and other procedures

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Has weekend availability
• Is comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds
• Has experience with companion animal restraint and basic handling skills
• Must be willing to learn and apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament
• Possess the ability to troubleshoot and fix issues efficiently
• Has a knack for repairs and keeping things in optimal condition

Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience--$18-20/hr. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
