University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) seeks a Veterinary Facility Supervisor for its Veterinary Resources team. Under the Veterinary Facility Manager, you will manage day-to-day operations of a laboratory animal facility and ensure compliance with federal animal care regulations.
You will supervise husbandry staff, maintain inventory, and oversee animal welfare across ABLS environments from level 1 to 3, emphasizing safety, SOP adherence, and collaboration with researchers.

This position overseesthe care and treatment of animals to ensure compliance with federalrules and regulations of animal care and appropriateness ofresearch conducted. This position may be used in one or all typesof Animal Biosafety Laboratories (ABLS) ranging from level 1 to 3environments.

Qualifications :
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Three (3) years in animal husbandry environmentwith at least two (2) years in a laboratory animal facilitysupporting a research project.
Other: Certification by the American Association forLaboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as a Laboratory Animal Technician(LAT) preferred.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional relatedexperience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance ofthe work of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.
General knowledge of the appropriate handling of all species oflaboratory animals. Ability to train and supervise facility andanimal staff in proper animal care. Ability to follow standardoperating procedures; to wear and work in personal protectiveequipment; to operate computers and other standard officeequipment; to supervise and train personnel; to communicateeffectively both orally and in writing. Ability to operate standardlaboratory animal equipment including scales, autoclaves, pressurewashers, cage washers, steam cleaners, etc.; to lift bags of feedand bedding; to follow standard operating procedures; to move heavystainless-steel racks, clean cages, etc. Ability for scheduleflexibility to provide off hour responses to emergency husbandryissues, facility problems, and alarms as needed.
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medicalinquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability toperform the job. Biosafety Laboratory Level 3 have additionalguidelines specific to working in BLS3 environments requiring thereceipt of BLS3 training, ability to demonstrate proficiency inBLS3 practice and techniques, and participate in medicalsurveillance. Biosafety Laboratories Level 3 (BLS3) requiressuccessful completion of Department of Justice security clearancefor work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federalregulation. May be required to have current tetanus and/ordiphtheria shots. Current measles titer and/or vaccine and TBtesting may be required.
Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates arenot eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit(Union).
$59,000 - $70,000, commensurate with educationand experience.
