Job summary

Northampton Veterinary Clinic, an award-winning 7-doctor practice in western Massachusetts, offers externships for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Students work closely with supervising DVMs to gain hands-on experience in histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery, while also developing communication skills with the medical team and clients.

Qualifications

• Externs are veterinary students in 3rd or 4th year.
• Gaining experience in histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observation/participation.
• Externs will practice communication with the medical team, staff and clients.
• Externships range from two to eight weeks.
• DVM students in the clinical portion are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create treatment plans and diagnostics.
• Assist or perform or observe dentistry and surgical procedures.
• Manage medical care and client communications.
