Job summary

Elmhurst Animal Care Center offers a veterinary externship designed to provide hands-on clinical exposure under the supervision of Associate Veterinarians. Students will gain experience gathering histories, performing exams, creating treatment plans, and observing or assisting surgeries, while also developing client communication skills.

Externships range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. Housing may be available in some cases; veterinary students in clinical portions of study are

Qualifications

• Externship experience in veterinary practice
• Ability to gather patient histories and perform physical exams
• Observation/assistance or performance of surgical procedures
• Develop treatment plans and manage medical cases

Responsibilities

• Gaining hands-on clinical experience under supervision
• Practice communication with medical team, staff, and clients
• Assist with or perform dental and surgical procedures as needed
