Abqpetcarehospital offers an externship for veterinary students interested in general practice and equine medicine. Participants will work closely with supervising veterinarians and gain hands-on experience performing examinations, creating treatment plans, and managing patient care.
The externship lasts between two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. Eligible students can receive a travel and living expense stipend. This opportunity enables the development of clinical and communication skills.
At Governors Avenue Animal Hospital (GP) and Delmarva Equine Clinic, our staff is dedicated to playing a positive role in the legacy of an extern that is interested in general practice or equine medicine.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian and gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patients medically. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in National Veterinary Associates externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Detailed stipend amounts and program information are available upon request.
