Governors Avenue Animal Hospital, part of National Veterinary Associates, offers a hands-on externship for veterinary students in Town of Dover, NY. Students will collaborate with veterinarians to perform various duties including gathering patient histories, conducting physical exams, and assisting in surgical procedures. Externships typically last from two to eight weeks. Eligible students may receive a travel/living expense stipend, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Job description

At Governors Avenue Animal Hospital (GP) and Delmarva Equine Clinic, our staff is dedicated to playing a positive role in the legacy of an extern that is interested in general practice or equine medicine.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at Governors Avenue Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
