An externship at a leading veterinary practice provides veterinary students with hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. You'll work alongside experienced veterinarians, gaining skills in various veterinary tasks while helping improve the lives of pets and their owners.
Job Description
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is different, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at All City Pet Care South and ER last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
