Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations at All City Pet Care South and ER typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view the stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
