Job summary

St. George Hunt Memorial Veterinary Hospital invites veterinary students for an externship opportunity in a state-of-the-art facility that emphasizes hands-on learning and high-quality care. Students will engage directly with patients, perform physical exams, and contribute to the creation of treatment plans while collaborating with a supportive team.

The externship may last between two to eight weeks. Eligible students will receive a travel/living expense stipend and can benefit from comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401k with employer match, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education.
• Ability to practice communication skills with medical team and clients.

Responsibilities

• Gathering patient histories.

St. George Hunt Memorial Veterinary Hospital

St. George Hunt Memorial Veterinary Hospital has recently relocated to a beautiful, state of the art facility designed to support high quality veterinary care and hands on learning. The clinic features dedicated surgery and dental suites, a spacious treatment area, and modern equipment to enhance every aspect of patient care. Externs will have the opportunity to work alongside a skilled and supportive team in a thriving practice located along the Main Line, gaining valuable experience in a collaborative and well equipped environment.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
